Accessing community assets
Exploring what community services are available can help increase awareness. Communities can provide avenues for residents to learn what is available to them on social media, newsletters, posters, and more. There are many existing online resources that communities can use to highlight services available. Word of mouth, public spaces, and marketing tools are all excellent ways to get your information to the public.
The RIFS team used the following ways to increase awareness of services in their communities:
- Gathering together and mapping all available services on a public wall
- Key chains and pocket cards with lists of services
- Community Resource Online Inventory like helpseeker.org
- Online resource list like 211 Alberta, providing information on social, community, health and government services in Alberta
Organizations were encouraged to ensure their services was listed and up to date.
